Trust and Security Are Top Concerns in The Public Sector’s Use of Generative AI
A recent survey by Amazon Web Services (AWS) reveals that while public sector organizations recognize the importance of adopting GenAI technologies, they remain cautious about their implementation due to concerns around trust, cost, and security. 90% of respondents agree that embracing GenAI is important, but only 28% report its broad integration within their organizations. Key barriers include the high costs of integrating GenAI with legacy systems and the challenge of maintaining public trust, with 83% of participants citing public confidence as a top concern. Data security and privacy are also significant issues, with nearly half of respondents prioritizing these factors. To overcome these challenges, many organizations are seeking external partners to help deploy and manage GenAI, emphasizing the importance of choosing a provider that aligns with their specific needs, including compliance and security requirements. This survey highlights the balancing act that public sector organizations must navigate as they explore the benefits and risks of GenAI adoption.

Saudi Arabia could see a $24 billion boost in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2030 if it invests in GenAI, according to research by Oliver Wyman and the Saudi Data & AI Authority. GenAI has the potential to enhance productivity and efficiency in sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing, financial services, and government services. However, the workforce will need to be upskilled to utilize AI tools, and concerns about job automation and redundancy are growing. Around 150,000 private sector jobs in Saudi Arabia could be impacted by GenAI advancements by 2030. Saudi Arabia already has a higher adoption rate of GenAI tools compared to the global average and the US. The report suggests that GenAI could contribute $20 trillion to global GDP by 2030 and save 300 billion hours of work per year.
